In early 2008, I heard rumors that Blake Schwarzenbach (foremerly of Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil ) was starting a new band. then in November of 2008 came confirmation as Blake, Aaron Cometbus (formerly of Crimpshrine ) and Daniela Sea were playing shows in Brooklyn, called Thorns of Life. Then last week, I saw on Twitter that they had played in LA. So I immediately checked to see if they were coming up to San Francisco and sure enough they were. January 31st at 924 Gilman St. in Berkeley to be exact. So borrowed my intern's Kodak Zi6 and headed to Berkeley.
The scene at Gilman St. was insane. People were all over the street and I had to wait 45 minutes on line outside the club to get in. Once I got in, there was literally no where to stand. The band before Thorns of Life was still playing and the place was packed. Once they finished, I was able to move up closer to the stage and get a good spot to tape a few songs. The setlist was surprisingly rockin', with the crowd reacting really positively and dancing during the harder/more rocking songs.
I was able to record 5 songs, which you can watch below. I only caught the name of the first song, "My First Time" and the other songs, I didn't catch the names of the songs. Of course, the best song of the set, "Not a Track Bike," was the best song of the set and I didn't get that on video. Oh well, next time.
So enjoy the videos below and be sure to catch Thorns of Life if they play by you. You won't be sorry.

Well, hot damn! God bless your intern and his camera. Now if I can only convince Thorns of Life to come to Buffalo, all will be well. Thanks, Ron
