What happens when, on the spur of the moment, Murmur's two resident history buffs jump in a car and drive 223 miles from New York City to Gettysburg, PA to embark on a two and a half hour tour of the site of one of the most important military battles to take place on American soil?

Oh, and did we mention that the tour took place on segways?

Running Time: 06:48

Oh gosh, now I want a Segway! Especially after finding out that they're healthy for you too, haha.

may i ask what you shot this on and edited it with, or would that be like asking a magician to reveal his secrets?

This was shot on a Flip MinoHD:

It was edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.

That is quite possibly the least healthy road trip I have ever seen. Doughnuts, soda, ice cream and Segways rather than walking. I am incredibly jealous.

Flag

While I cannot discount the donuts and ice cream, we learned that riding a segway burns a ton of calories. You are constantly using your core muscles to shift and move. Our guide was in great shape.

Good to know. Did either of you take a Dubya style tumble? (It's OK, I would never admit to it either.

Almost. Getting off the segways the very first time was tricky (as was getting back on after the first time being off). After our first stop on the tour, if the guide hadn't been there, I would have gone flying off. I think the same thing happened with Josh at one point.

I'm eager to try one.

Looks fun and awesome at the same time.

I love the pile-up of incongruities. The somber battlefield... the contemplative music... and then those helmets.

I hope we get more random five minutes videos around here.

I've spent too much time in New Jersey. While it may not rain dirt exactly, what it rains ain't no rain i want on me at all.

Flag

Believe me when I tell you that gravel rained down on Josh's car.

He's not kidding. It came out of NOWHERE!

As assumed from the moment I heard you were doing this - it looks like a very cool way to explore the battlefield.

I'm glad the rain held off and didn't ruin your day. Next time though, I really expect you and Josh to attempt the "off road" Segway Battlefield tour. THAT would make good video =) But seriously, this video makes me think I really want to go back there and pay a little bit more attention this time....and maybe ride a segway...

Flag

There actually was a bit of off-roading. Those things can go anywhere!

Great video, the rapid transition from light hearted benny hill music to the more somber music threw me for a min but looks like you have a great time. I did the tour a few years ago but all we got was a cassette tape and drove around in our car.

Flag

That's kind of what it felt like to be there, to be honest.

Cool video. My step dad was a history major in college and studied the civil war extensively. We once went on a vacation/roadtrip visiting a lot of civil war battlefields including Gettysburg. Sadly it was pre-segway.:(

I half thought when josh came out of the restroom he'd be on the segway.

Flag

That's what I thought was going to happen too.

i am SO envious... that looked like an awesome experience!

also - how did the married guy get stuck with the cute segway instructor, when the single guy didn't... i'm just saying - maybe a bit of a "bro code" violation. :)

great video, guys! keep 'em coming!

Just imagine the looks of horror on the faces of the Confederate soldiers as the Union army swarmed upon them atop Segways, their silent metal steeds mercilessly rolling over grass and flesh and bone and blood and dreams. Damn I love history.

So I guess this is a 'Mumur Mini Video Podcast'? lol

Great vid. I think it's either funny or surreal that....in a very important and bloody battle that really changed the course of the Civil War. 146 years later and we're having Segway Tours on the land....I'm not complaining it's just that when you think about it; it's weird.

Flag

Also....That is the same exact music you used for the 'Civil War' vid on Ifanboy (on Marvel's Civil War). Now I got that speech by Ron stuck in my head :)

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 10:50 AM

Flag

It's the music from Ken Burns' Civil War.

Two points for the Yakety Sax, what a chase scene! Just curious do the cops in New York use segways? Cause they do in Chicago.

Flag

They do not. Segways are actually illegal in New York City.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 12:24 PM

Flag

Really? Heh....interesting.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 12:38 PM

Flag

Are you serious? How do they fight crime if everyone is too busy laughing at them on their Segways?

Friday, June 26, 2009 3:04 AM

Flag

Those that laugh are only those who have not driven them.
