A murmur generally starts quietly. One or two people share something. Some information, an idea, a joke, a great story, a cautionary word, an excellent tip, some gossip or a simple hello can build from nothing into something extraordinary with a speed and a force that is hard to recognize in that moment.
Murmur is the groundswell, the buzz, the growing conversation, increasingly louder, ever engaging and expanding, before someone is brave or foolish enough to shout it out loud.
We are often defined by the things we like, and we use those things to find other people and other things we might be into. We use these things we like to make connections. Murmur.com is where you are going to comment on a great local band you saw last night. It's where you're going to write a review of that new indie album that just dropped. You're going to go see that movie, and then come write about it and tell everyone about what you think. Murmur.com is where you will find yourself in the middle of reading a conversation on politics, and that sparks you to offer your opinion.
At Murmur, you can find content about the things you like and the things that are important to you. You can help shape that conversation by contributing your own content, or by participating in the on-going conversations and celebrations of the things you like. Murmur's editorial staff will produce content, but so can anyone else in the Murmur community. Whether you're writing about TV, or Music, or Lifestyle, Murmur gives you the chance to connect with others, share and learn.
Murmur is not a blogging platform. We are not a social networking site. We aren't your home on the web. We are your soapbox, your flyer on the telephone pole, your crazy man at the bus stop, your pulpit, your reviewer's seat, your talking head on the TV and your radio show. What is Murmur? Murmur the place where your voice will be heard.
Murmur is also a work-in-progress. If you see things that don't work for you or that you'd like done differently let us know. The same goes for new features you'd like to see or specific things that you'd like to see covered.
First and foremost, you can read great content. We've got a great stable of writers and there will be some great stuff written by people like you. But you should register first. After you do that that, Murmur is your oyster. Make original content. Respond to others. Comment on what others have to say. Create something every day or once in a while. Purge your troubled soul. Write a haiku. Rant about nothing or craft editorials on topical subjects. Tell others what you think and ask them what they know. Join the conversation and connect with others.
Get hooked in to things you didn't know about. Be open. Listen for that quiet noise.
Murmur is currently in beta, which means that while anyone can register and fully use the site, we're still actively working on the site so we can continue to work out the bugs and make Murmur better. But we want you to join the community and help us out!, so go ahead and register and let us know by emailing bugs@murmur.com if you see any problems. Thanks.
